When Target announced it was partnering with English luxury handbag house Mulberry, via Gilt Groupe, I was really looking forward to seeing what they would come up with.

Mulberry for Target officially hit stores today, as did my disappointment.  I get it, it’s a retail chain department store.  The bag isn’t going to look like the typical luxorious handbag that Mulberry offers, but they can do better than this.

Without my glasses on, I can’t see very well from far away and already knew these bags looked cheap & tacky.  Mulberry for Target offers several different options (see some below) including satchels, crossbodies and totes.

The one that sticks out the most obviously and not for good reasons would have to be the cerise leopard print.  It SCREAMS cheesy, tasteless and unsophistacted.  The patent leather looks exceedingly cheap, the lines on the velvet/denim poorly sewn.

In an interview with creative director of Mulberry Emma Hill, she described the Mulberry girl as:  “…is playful and creative. She is quietly confident and will make you smile. She enjoys fashion but hates pretentiousness. She is intelligent and generous but a little bit cheeky, with bucketloads of English charm! She loves beautiful things and is generous, friendly and warm. She knows who she is without being arrogant.” Said Hill.

If you consider yourself to  be any of these things, take my advice and just stay clear of this collection.  Save your money for perhaps the real thing.

shop the collection here.

Spectacular Disaster

Kanye’s at it again.  But…could it be, that he’s making some sense? Quick, put on Fox News and make sure it still doesn’t make any sense.

Phew, ok.

Kanye compared Lindsay Lohan’s collection for Emanuel Ungaro to 9/11 while at the London premiere for Runaway, West’s short film.

Ouch.  It’s no surprise though that the collection was less than desirable, Ungaro himself calling the collection a “disaster”.  Apparently, West feels the collection, which Lohan was Artistic Advisor to (ha, ok) was so awful, it ruined his chance of producing any kind of line.

In part, I agree with West (shocking I know).  For some time now it has really bothered me that celebs feel like they can wake up one day and say “hmm, I think I’ll have my own fashion line.”, and bam there it is. i.e., cough, jersey shore cast members, jennifer lopez, even miley cyrus.  I realize it’s at Wal Mart, but the whole partnering with Max Azria burns my as…….

Anyways, it’s like a singer that decides they’re an actor, and vice versa.  There’s nothing wrong with it, but if you’re going to do it, BE GOOD AT IT AND KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING.  You can’t just throw some pasties down the runway Lohan.

You have to study your arse off and know everything about the industry.  There are so many people that want to be in it and who are good at it. All you are doing is humilating yourself, and the poor designer.

But….Kanye, don’t put all the blame on Lindsay.  You really can’t do anything now?? This should be challenging you even more, making you want to create something even more fabulous. Which I can’t believe I’m saying because I don’t think I really want you touching this field, I think you look like a fool most of the time…but quit being lazy and putting the blame on other people…I thought you were trying to change???
